Explanation of the system

The heart of the EasyPro 6,7-15,4cm self-leveling pedestal is the movable head.
As soon as you place the slabs on the support, the movable head attempts to balance all the slabs. Since the weight of each slab is essentially the same (e.g., four adjacent 60x60 slabs resting at one corner on a movable pedestal head), the movable head will find equilibrium and move into a horizontal position. This is similar to an old kitchen scale. When the weight on the left and right sides is equal, the movable middle section automatically returns to the horizontal position.

Assembly: Step-by-step instructions

Installation proceeds in logical steps. We recommend that you first create a mounting jig from wood or aluminum that exactly matches the length of your panels.

1. Cutting the edge bearings

Position the pedestals as close as possible to the outer edge. To avoid overhangs, trim the base of the pedestal along the pre-marked cut lines on the underside using a jigsaw. The following image shows a pedestal trimmed on one side in the middle and a pedestal trimmed on both sides on the right.
Cutting the EasyPro pedestal supports and showing the cut-off pedestal supports

2. Positioning and alignment

Set up the (trimmed) edge supports and the first inner row.
Use the mounting template for the distances and a spirit level (at least 2 m) to adjust the desired level using the rotary ring or the adjustment key.
Next, attach the edge clips.
Illustration of the installation of the first rows of pedestals using the EasyPro self-leveling pedestal system.

3. Laying the slabs

Before laying the first slab, you should break off the unnecessary joint spacers so that it lies flush against the edge.
Please also check the level regularly with a spirit level.
Then continue laying the pedestals and slabs until you reach the edge area.

4. Vertical edge finish

For a vertical edge finish – if required – you have several options:

  • an aluminum edge trim (image left) in the standard version or in the 'Sideline' version
  • the edge trim (in the picture on the right)
  • a version with upper and lower riser clips (image below)

Delivery

You will receive the "EasyPro" adjustable pedestal in the selected adjustment range, including pre-assembled joint spacers. Please order accessories such as fixing rings, edge clips, adjustment keys, and drainage components separately according to your individual requirements.

Planning notes / Material requirements

For narrow slabs (14 cm and above), be sure to use fixing rings. Use the installation jig to save time on large areas and achieve precise joint patterns. Ensure that the pedestal base for the edge trim is cut exactly 3 mm above the outer perforation.

Care / Maintenance of the EasyPro self-leveling pedestal system

The system is maintenance-free and durable. We simply recommend regularly checking the joints for dirt. This ensures that rainwater can drain away freely and that the drainage function of the substructure is maintained.

Do you have to screw the pedestals?

In principle, the outermost row of pedestals should be fixed..
If a screw connection is possible depends on the terrace condition

    1. What is the outermost row of pedestals?

The outermost row of pedestals is a row to an open edge. An open edge is an edge that is not enclosed by walls or fixed fixing angles.

A typical 'open edge' is the last row of a balcony railing.

    2. Why should the outermost row of pedestals be fixed?

The reason is that there should be no shifts in the outermost row of plates.

    3. How can the fixation be done?

This depends on the nature of the subfloor:

On a concrete subfloor the pedestal can be screwed in. .
On a sealing layer the pedestal must be glued to the layer. Otherwise, the sealing layer will be damaged.

  • image/svg+xmlimage/svg+xml
Does the movable head reduce the maximum breaking load compared to a fixed pedestal bearing?

Compared to a horizontal position of the pedestal head, the maximum load-bearing capacity is reduced by between 5% and 20% according to technical tests carried out.
This decrease results from an increased stress on one side of the outer static support structure of the pedestal bearings – in the case of a decentralized load.

  • image/svg+xmlimage/svg+xml
What happens if a narrow edge plate rests on only two points of a self-leveling head? Will the head then tilt outwards unintentionally?

Yes, that can happen when full-surface slabs abut small edge slabs.
The larger plate then levers the smaller plate out.

Negative effects of unfixed pedestals at the edge

In such cases, you should convert the outer edge pedestals into a pedestal with a fixed head.
This is achieved with Easy Pro through the use of the fixing ring.
This is inserted into the pedestal head and blocks the self-leveling mechanism.

  • image/svg+xmlimage/svg+xml
Are self-leveling systems suitable for roof terraces in exposed locations, or do fixed heads offer more stability against uplift forces?

Neither. Neither system offers any additional protection against extreme storms or tornadoes as standard.
If this is the case for a terrace, we recommend:
    a) the bonding of the pedestals to the floor
    b) the bonding of the slabs to the pedestals

Both measures together lead to a significant improvement in protection against uplift wind forces.
Alternatively, we recommend increasing the thickness of the slabs to be laid (e.g. from 2cm to 3cm).

  • image/svg+xmlimage/svg+xml
Does the ball joint of the head tend to 'seize' or squeak after years of stress due to thermal expansion of the plates?

After selling over a million self-leveling pedestal bearings, we have not observed any signs of mechanical wear or acoustic impairment, even after years of use.

  • image/svg+xmlimage/svg+xml
Can I use a self-leveling pedestal if both the subfloor has a slope and the slab surface is to have a (different) slope?

Yes, you can! A self-leveling pedestal can not only compensate for a slope but also create a different slope.
The following images illustrate an artificially created slope in a wooden substructure. This can also be applied to slab coverings.

Creating a slope with self-leveling pedestal bearings EasyPro

Does dirt and water collect in the movable head, which could lead to frost damage in winter?

Here, a distinction must be made between dirt and water:

    a) Water
Yes, water can accumulate in the movable head (rarely) or a film of water can form (more frequently). In winter, this can lead to ice formation. This ice is then broken up by walking on it, and a slight cracking sound can be heard once. This 'frost cracking' is unavoidable in reality.
Because the most common cause is not direct water ingress but the formation of condensation.

    b) dirt
Significant dirt accumulation during winter – and the associated impairment of acoustics – has not occurred in a single instance to date. No reports of such occurrences have been received from us.

  • image/svg+xmlimage/svg+xml
At what percentage gradient does the extra cost for a self-leveling system become worthwhile compared to leveling shims?

The additional cost for the pedestal supports must be weighed against the significantly increased installation effort and the reduced installation accuracy. For example:
    a) The additional cost per m² for self-leveling pedestals is approximately EUR 7 to 12 compared to pedestals with a fixed head (including leveling washers).
    b) A publisher charges EUR 50.-/m2 of laid area only for the laying, excluding material.
The installer may therefore only incur additional costs of 7/50 to 12/50 = 8,4 minutes to 12 minutes per hour for the installation of fixed pedestals.
This does not include the lower installation accuracy of fixed pedestals with leveling discs.

  • image/svg+xmlimage/svg+xml
Can I combine EasyPro with rail systems, or is the movable head only useful for the direct installation of slabs?

You can use EasyPro for both the Slim Easy rail system and the Smart Wabic raised floor system.
For example, in the Slim Easy rail system, the 4mm pedestal bearing head precisely accommodates the base profile, as can be seen in the following image:

Mounting the Slim Easy base profile onto the EasyPro pedestal
  • image/svg+xmlimage/svg+xml
Does the system also compensate for unevenness in the screed or waterproofing (overlaps/dents/bumps), or is it intended purely for constant slopes?

The 5° mechanism reaches its limits in cases of large overlaps or elevations.
Additional measures are then required, e.g. our 1mm- and 3mm leveling discs which are to be placed under the pedestal support.

Leveling washer placed 1mm below the pedestal bearing

height adjustment options

The 'Gemini' pedestal supports have the following height adjustment options:
(a) using an adjustment key
(b) by means of a rotating ring

(a) Height adjustment using adjustment key

With the adjustment key, our Gemini pedestals can be quickly adjusted to the required height.
The large slot in the Gemini pedestal supports accommodates the adjustment key and enables its perfect hold!

The key is used exclusively for height adjustment without plates in place.
The fine adjustment of the height of already laid panels is done using the large adjustment rings, which are built directly into the 'Gemini' pedestal supports!

(b) Height adjustment using adjustment ring

All pedestal supports in the 'Gemini' series have integrated swivel rings which allow the height of the pedestal supports to be perfectly adjusted.
These are easy to operate by hand.

The two height adjustment options of EasyPro

Conversion to a pedestal with fixed head (non-self-leveling)

By using our fixation ring You can

  • within seconds
  • block the self-leveling mechanism permanently and stably!

This converts the self-levelling pedestal support 'EasyPro' into a pedestal support with a fixed head

Why do we offer you this option?

For pedestal constructions With the 'EasyPro' pedestal support, situations regularly arise where narrow edge panels must be installed. Under certain circumstances, this can cause the edge panels to tilt slightly due to significant weight differences.

Negative effects of unfixed pedestals at the edge

Within the rail system construction Our system 'Slim Easy' will help you with this conversion

  • the easier installation of the first, outermost base profile (movement of the base profile is prevented and height adjustment is thus made much easier)
  • increasing edge stability
Height adjustment of the pedestal bearings using a rotating ring

Installation of the fixation ring

The assembly takes place in two quick steps, which are completed within seconds:

First, the fixing ring is inserted into the pedestal head:
Then the head with the fixing ring is inserted into the pedestal base – done!

Second assembly step of installing the fixing ring into the EasyPro pedestal bearing

Arrangement of pedestals for narrow edge areas

You can easily solve narrow edge areas from a width of 14cm with the 'EasyPro' pedestal support.

There are a few steps you need to complete

  • Cutting the pedestal supports and partially cutting off the joint heads
  • Inserting the fixation ring
  • if necessary, gluing the panels

(1) Cutting the pedestals

For narrow edge areas it is necessary to reduce the size of the pedestals.
This is also easily possible: you can reduce the size of the pedestal support along the pre-punched cutting lines on the underside. You can see the dashed lines below

cutting edges Gemini

Using a jigsaw, you can then cut the pedestal support

Cutting off the base for Gemini

There are four ways you can reduce the size of the 'EasyPro' pedestal support:
– one-sided cutting
– two-sided cutting
– two-sided, right-angled cut
– all-round cutting

possible cutting types Pedestal bearing Gemini

(2) Installation of the fixing ring

In order to prevent tipping of narrow edge panels, the outermost pedestals should be converted into pedestals with a fixed head using the fixing ring for safety reasons.

The assembly takes place in two quick steps, which are completed within seconds:
First, the fixing ring is inserted into the pedestal head:
