Installation of rail system – the vertical side cladding

Vertical veneering is a frequently desired option in a rail system.

This is easy to accomplish with our top and bottom edge clips.

Cover your sides with the panel material that you already use on the horizontal terrace surface.

We have the right solution as well as your Wide base as well as most your 3cm paving slabs.

The assembly is divided into the following steps:

  1. Connection of the lower edge clip with the edge pedestals
  2. Installation of the upper edge clip
  3. Cutting off the side panel and assembly

1. Connecting the lower edge clip to the edge support

Step 1: Apply cutting line

If you turn our pedestal supports over, you will see pre-stamped cutting lines on the underside.

To mount the bottom edge clip, please draw a line with a pencil as shown in the photo on the right.

Use a pencil to mark – it sticks to the plastic better than any fiber pen.

Step 2: Cutting the pedestal at the base

In the next step, please cut the pedestal along the line you have already marked.

To do this, use a hand saw or jigsaw.

Step 3: Apply adhesive dots to the bottom edge clip

Please ensure that the surface of the clip is dry, clean and free of grease before applying!

Please apply 6-8 adhesive dots with our premium hybrid adhesive to the inside of the clip (see photo on the right).

Step 4: Connect the edge clip to the pedestal

Now attach the edge clip to the pedestal.

After about 2 hours, a high initial adhesion is present and you can then use the pedestal with your rail construction.

If you turn the pedestal over, the end result looks like this:

2. Installation of the upper edge clip

Always use two upper and two lower edge clips per edge panel!

Installing the upper edge clip is much easier than installing the lower edge clip.

Simply insert the upper edge clip into the Slim Easy base profile and screw it tight – done! Here you can find our upper edge clip.

3. Inserting the side cladding panel

Always use two upper and two lower edge clips per edge panel!

The side veneer plate must now be inserted between the upper and lower edge clips.

At the contact points between the plate and the clips, it is recommended to apply a thin layer of contact adhesive to the inside of the clips. This will prevent unpleasant crunching noises!

A variety of factors must be taken into account when planning rail systems.
Our configurator provides you with crucial support – quickly and easily!

additional information

The rail system provides an additional installation level that simplifies the installation of slabs and wooden flooring.
This installation level is decoupled from the actual covering. This gives you the opportunity to determine the exact height, inclination, etc. of your surface materials before laying them.

This decoupling from the actual covering is the guarantee for a higher level of accuracy and a significantly lower probability of error!

The components of the rail system

The rail system always consists of the following categories.

The basic components determine the actual supporting structure.
These consist of the basic profiles, as well as the extension and corner elements. In addition, special elements are included to hold the coverings.

With these basic components you can, if you wish, build an extremely stable frame that is ready for the laying of the flooring materials on top.

The pedestals

In 95% of cases, pedestals are installed under the rail system to bring the basic structure to the correct height level.

We recommend using only self-leveling pedestals. These are not only quicker and easier to install, but they also compensate for uneven ground and therefore ensure a perfect contact surface.

Rail system for slabs and wooden planks – the advantages

The rail system for slabs and wooden planks has the following major advantages when properly installed:

  • the accuracy of the installation and
  • the significantly lower susceptibility to errors

The disadvantages

The disadvantages, of course, are mainly due to the significantly higher costs.
The fact that aluminium has become considerably more expensive in recent months is a major contributing factor to this!
