Rail system – the installation of gutters

In times of heavy rainfall, the use of drainage channels is an excellent measure to efficiently drain the rain.

 

Here we show you how gutters are mounted on our rail system.
For this example, we suggest you install it in a niche.

1. Arrangement of the base profiles

In this picture you see 5 basic profiles.

 

  • 3 of these profiles are continuous and come from the rest of the installation area
  • Two short profiles were additionally added to ensure stable side support for the drainage channel.

We offer you a variety of drainage channels for 2cm and 3cm paving materials!

Step 2: Laying and pre-drilling the gutter bottom

Pre-drilling makes installation much easier!

The gutter bottom and the gutter cover must first be cut to the desired length.

 

Then please place the gutter base into the niche.

This gutter base is screwed directly onto the Slim Easy base profile.

For this purpose, it is advisable to pre-drill the gutter bottom first.

The gutter bottom is firmly screwed to the Slim Easy base profile.

 

This creates a strong and lasting connection!

Step 3: Inserting the gutter cover

The gutter cover must be inserted into the gutter bottom!

Step 4: Create a gap between the panels and the gutter

A particularly important point is now the creation of the joint distance between the panels to be laid and the already installed gutter!

There are two possibilities here:

  • the bonding of the subsequent panel or
  • the use of the joint plates (also used in the surface)

We will show you the solution with the joint plate as follows:

  • 2,0 mm
  • 3,5 mm
  • 5,0 mm

The joint plate is to be cut off just over half and inserted into the base profile.

Then push half of the joint plate up to the edge of the already installed drainage channel.

 

This ensures that the distance to the gutter is exactly the same as within the laid slab area!

On the right you can see the assembly situation with all prepared joint plates.

 

What is still missing is the acoustic tape, which will be applied in the next step.

Step 5: Stick acoustic tape onto the base profile

The acoustic tape must be applied to ensure optimal panel hold and better acoustics.

Now the laying of the panels can begin.

The rail system provides an additional installation level that simplifies the installation of slabs and wooden flooring.
This installation level is decoupled from the actual covering. This gives you the opportunity to determine the exact height, inclination, etc. of your surface materials before laying them.

 

This decoupling from the actual covering is the guarantee for a higher level of accuracy and a significantly lower probability of error!

 

The components of the rail system

The rail system always consists of the following categories.

 

The basic components determine the actual supporting structure.
These consist of the basic profiles, as well as the extension and corner elements. In addition, special elements are included to hold the coverings.

 

With these basic components you can, if you wish, build an extremely stable frame that is ready for the laying of the flooring materials on top.

The pedestals

In 95% of cases, pedestals are installed under the rail system to bring the basic structure to the correct height level.

 

We recommend using only self-leveling pedestals. These are not only quicker and easier to install, but they also compensate for uneven ground and therefore ensure a perfect contact surface.

Rail system for slabs and wooden planks – the advantages

The rail system for slabs and wooden planks has the following major advantages when properly installed:

  • the accuracy of the installation and
  • the significantly lower susceptibility to errors

The disadvantages

The disadvantages, of course, are mainly due to the significantly higher costs.
The fact that aluminium has become considerably more expensive in recent months is a major contributing factor to this!
