The installation of the Slim Easy rail system
You can install our Slim Easy rail system in 8 simple steps.
Step 1: Installing the pedestals
Clean the installation surface carefully before installing the pedestals!
This will save you from unpleasant crunching noises and ensure a perfect contact surface!
After cleaning the subfloor, the building protection pads are first applied. These must be used on concrete subfloors; they are recommended for other subfloors.
The pedestals must then be put in place and adjusted to the approximate required height.
Step 2: Extension of the base joists
The base joists can now be cut to the desired length.
The connector is used for this purpose – these enable the base joists to be extended.
The connector must be inserted into the base joist.

The following joist is pushed over – done!

Step 3: Attaching the base joists and adjusting the height
It is extremely helpful to adjust the pedestals to approximately the correct height before installing the base profiles!
This simplifies the following fine adjustment!
The base joist is placed on the pedestal supports.
The joist adapts perfectly to the pedestal with a joint width of 4 mm.
The height is adjusted using the rotating rings.
All of our pedestals are delivered with these adjustment rings.
Step 4: Inserting the cross joists
The side closure of the last row of slabs is an extremely important point.
This last row of slabs can be fixed in two different ways:
- using the upper edge clip or
- by gluing to the base joist
If you want to finish the edge with our top edge clips, you will need to create a base on the short side of the construction to assemble these clips.
To do this, you must insert an additional joist at right angles to the base joists at the edge.
If you prefer to glue the last row of slabs instead of using the upper edge clip, this step is not necessary.
Cut the cross joist a little too short rather than too long.
A gap of e.g. 5mm to the adjacent joist is ideal and increases your flexibility, e.g. during the final installation of the covering slabs!
First, the distances between the main longitudinal joists are determined.
A base joist must then be cut to the desired length.
This cross joist is then placed on the pedestal supports.

Step 5: Installing the edge clips
If you have chosen an edge finish with our upper edge clips, you should now mount these onto the base joist.
In order to position the slabs firmly in heavily trafficked areas, we recommend at slab formats
- over 30cm edge length: 2 upper edge clips per slab
- under 30cm edge length: 1 upper edge clip per panel
Please note that our acoustic tape (see below) already provides excellent protection against the panels slipping.
For this reason, only one upper edge clip can be used in areas with little traffic.
Pre-drilling makes your work of fixing the upper edge clips much easier!

Step 6: Inserting the joint plates
In a next step, the joint plates must now be inserted where the slabs will meet.
The joint plates
- define there the joint spacing (2mm, 3,5mm or 5mm) and
- are with one anti-acoustic support surface equipped.
The joint plates can be mounted on the already installed base joists.
Individual joint tabs can simply be broken off to enable, for example, bandage laying or edge laying!
To easily determine the distances between the joint plates, make a gauge out of wood. This could be a wooden stick the length of the board, for example.

Step 7: Applying the acoustic tapes
The self-adhesive acoustic tape
- serves primarily for Improving acoustics.
- ensures effective Protection against slipping of the laid slabs and
- gives you a pleasant walking feeling
In order to achieve these properties, we chose EPDM, a particularly high-quality material that is extremely elastic and resilient and retains these excellent properties even at extremely low and high temperatures.
Before gluing, thoroughly clean the base joist of dirt, moisture and dust!
After application, press the acoustic tape firmly onto the base joist again in all places.
The protective film on the back must be removed and the self-adhesive acoustic tape applied to the base profile

The acoustic tape does not necessarily have to be directly adjacent to the joint plate.
Here you can see the basic framework that we have built in the last steps.
The front row of base profiles and pedestal supports is equipped with additional upper and lower edge clips to accommodate vertical panel cladding.
Step 8: Laying the slabs
The last step is to lay the slabs.
In addition to the direct installation, fine adjustments of the height or slight shifts in the distances between the base profiles are necessary.
But the same applies here: the more precisely steps 1-7 are carried out, the faster and easier this last (and most beautiful) step of the assembly will be!
When laying the slabs, always start with whole slabs at the edges!

The rail system provides an additional installation level that simplifies the installation of slabs and wooden flooring.
This installation level is decoupled from the actual covering. This gives you the opportunity to determine the exact height, inclination, etc. of your surface materials before laying them.
This decoupling from the actual covering is the guarantee for a higher level of accuracy and a significantly lower probability of error!
The components of the rail system
The rail system always consists of the following categories.
The basic components determine the actual supporting structure.
These consist of the basic profiles, as well as the extension and corner elements. In addition, special elements are included to hold the coverings.
With these basic components you can, if you wish, build an extremely stable frame that is ready for the laying of the flooring materials on top.
The pedestals
In 95% of cases, pedestals are installed under the rail system to bring the basic structure to the correct height level.
We always use and recommend pedestals with self-leveling head because they perfectly compensate for unevenness and ensure an excellent contact surface with the ground.
Rail system for slabs and wooden planks – the advantages
The rail system for slabs and wooden planks has the following major advantages when properly installed:
- the accuracy of the installation and
- the significantly lower susceptibility to errors
The disadvantages
The disadvantages, of course, are mainly due to the significantly higher costs.
The fact that aluminium has become considerably more expensive in recent months is a major contributing factor to this!
