Slim Easy – the edge finish

mounting areas of the upper edge clip

The side edge finish is an essential point when installing the rail system.
These are located along the orange shown on the left marked areas.

It is particularly important that the outermost edge panels have no chance of moving outwards.

For this reason, these edge panels must be fixed.
There are two ways to do this:

  1. The use of our upper edge clips or
  2. The bonding the panel with the rail system

A. The edge finish with the upper edge clip

positioning and screwing

The upper edge clip is particularly quick and easy to install and can be walked on immediately after the panel has been laid.

The upper edge clip is inserted into the Slim Easy base profile and screwed tight using the enclosed screws.

Quantity

We recommend 2 edge clips per panel for heavily trafficked areas.
For less frequented areas, 1 edge clip is sufficient.

B. Edge finishing by gluing the edge panels

The bonding of patio tiles has become a standard procedure permanent fixation.

The use of environmentally friendly and highly flexible adhesives makes processing much easier and we can fully recommend this type of fixation!

Step 1: Applying the adhesive dots

Bonding is particularly suitable for sloping edge areas or as additional fixation!

Our hybrid adhesive is ideal for bonding natural stone, concrete slabs and porcelain stoneware to

  • the basic profile Slim Easy
  • the acoustic tape
  • Pedestals

The adhesive dots should be placed every 8 – 10 cm.

Step 1 of bonding edge panels

All surfaces to be bonded must be dry, dust-free and grease-free!

Step 2 of bonding edge panels

Step 2: Laying the slabs

A slab that has been laid must not be walked on for the next 10 hours!

This is necessary to ensure a perfect and lasting hold!

Step 3 of bonding edge panels

C. Special situation: edge fixing of panels without frame

Special situation of the rail system without external frame

Sometimes situations arise where the installation of an external frame is not feasible or not desired.

We have also developed a solution for this situation!

For this you need our edge finishing clip – this is not identical to our upper edge clip of the Slim Easy rail system!

Step 1: Applying the edge finishing clip

The edge finishing clip is basically a standard accessory for installing pedestals.

Placing the edge finishing clip

Step 2: Inserting the joint plate

The joint plate is inserted into the open space of the edge finishing clip.

The joint plate is then rotated so that the joint plate is firmly anchored in the base profile.

This anchoring also ensures that the edge finishing clip is firmly clamped onto the base profile!

The edge finishing clip is basically a standard accessory for installing pedestals.

Step 6 of gutter installation in niche

If you do not prefer this mounting option, you can also glue the clip directly onto the base profile!

It is also possible to glue the panel directly onto the profile (see point B above)

Here you can see the overall situation with the acoustic tape applied.

Due to a niche situation, the base profiles are so close together that there would have been no room for an additional outer frame.

For this reason, the special solution described was implemented.

Use our 3D configurator!

A variety of factors must be taken into account when planning rail systems.
Our configurator provides you with crucial support – quickly and easily!

additional information

The rail system provides an additional installation level that simplifies the installation of slabs and wooden flooring.
This installation level is decoupled from the actual covering. This gives you the opportunity to determine the exact height, inclination, etc. of your surface materials before laying them.

This decoupling from the actual covering is the guarantee for a higher level of accuracy and a significantly lower probability of error!

The components of the rail system

The rail system always consists of the following categories.

The basic components determine the actual supporting structure.
These consist of the basic profiles, as well as the extension and corner elements. In addition, special elements are included to hold the coverings.

With these basic components you can, if you wish, build an extremely stable frame that is ready for the laying of the flooring materials on top.

The pedestals

In 95% of cases, pedestals are installed under the rail system to bring the basic structure to the correct height level.

We recommend using only self-leveling pedestals. These are not only quicker and easier to install, but they also compensate for uneven ground and therefore ensure a perfect contact surface.

Rail system for slabs and wooden planks – the advantages

The rail system for slabs and wooden planks has the following major advantages when properly installed:

  • the accuracy of the installation and
  • the significantly lower susceptibility to errors

The disadvantages

The disadvantages, of course, are mainly due to the significantly higher costs.
The fact that aluminium has become considerably more expensive in recent months is a major contributing factor to this!
